Wellbeing

Also in this Section

At Lakeside College, students are nurtured in mind, body and soul.

Wellbeing

At Lakeside College we believe it is important to provide a safe, caring and friendly environment in which students can flourish socially, cognitively, emotionally, physically and spiritually. We acknowledge the important role of parents/guardians in the development of their child’s wellbeing and aim to support this by working in partnership with families in our school.

We empower students from Prep to 12 to take ownership of their wellbeing, realise the impact they can have on the wellbeing of others and understand how God has created us to live in harmony with him, each other and God’s earth.

All school staff take a role in supporting the wellbeing of our students with the Wellbeing Coordinators leading wellbeing programs in the Primary, Middle and Senior Schools.

All students have a homeroom teacher who meets with their class each morning, supports them, liaises with families and delivers programs to build student wellbeing.

The College has several core beliefs regarding student wellbeing. These include:

  • Student wellbeing is underpinned by the school values of learning, caring and achieving
  • All members of the school community have a right to feel loved, safe and valued at all times
  • There is a significant link between student wellbeing and their capacity to learn
  • All members of the school community have a role to play in maintaining wellbeing
  • We use a restorative justice approach to behaviour management as forgiveness and restoration of relationships are at the heart of the Gospel
  • Bullying in our community is not acceptable
  • We seek to foster empathy in students and enable them to understand how certain practices can positively or negatively impact the wellbeing of others
  • Explicit teaching about character and wellbeing is vital and modelling by staff and parents is of utmost importance
  • Legal requirements surrounding the protection of students are followed at all times

Pastoral Care

As a Christian College, we seek to share the Gospel through our worship, teaching, and practice. We are mindful that not all of our students and their families have necessarily experienced the culture of a Christian community. Weekly sub-school chapel and daily home group devotions are a part of the experience of Christian community at Lakeside College. Our worship experiences are life related and contemporary in style, with music being a particular feature.

Through our Christian Life program, students have the opportunity to explore and better understand the beliefs and practices of both the Christian faith, and other faith groups. We welcome and encourage active engagement in respectful discussion and debate regarding the teachings and practices of the Christian faith and other religions. By doing so, we believe that our students are engaging in a most worthwhile aspect of their personal and spiritual development.
